We believe that mindfulness meditation allows one to meet the complexities of life with more wisdom. Mindfulness practices do not alter situations (though it may), nor does it create a life without obstacles.
Of course, life will continue to be difficult, and that's just the essence of life. The distinction with mindfulness is that you acquire greater capacity to cope with problems in a balanced manner, ways that do not cause as much chaos or misery as we do when we are not attentive.
Will it make life more painful? It wasn't at first. In reality, it was often overwhelmingly disturbing to see my unreasonable thoughts, assumptions, storeys, and emotional reactivity running the show without my knowledge.
It's real, but it's a slow phase. Since the first startling realization of the endless litany in my head, there was a moment when I just watched it without judgment, trying to be as sure as possible about what was going on in the realm of thought.
